"Pulling the chute"

it's the new two weeks notice

Yesterday at J.F.K Airport in New York City, one bad-ass flight attendant with the chutzpa usually found in the lead character from the 1970's blaxploitation film, a.k.a Steven Slater- had enough. According to people who claim they are credible, a passenger hit him in the head with a piece of luggage which was stored in the over-head compartment. Slater asked for an apology and when the passenger refused, Slater walked to the intercom and cursed the passenger out, grabbed two beers, opened the emergency door and chute, jumped out, walked across the airport to his car and drove home.

This man, who no one knows much about, has stirred the emotions of people everywhere in America and abroad as well. Some are calling him "A Hero" and I agree. Actually, my silly brain believes he is more. People are pissed. I am one of them. See, this recession doesn't just hurt the people who have lost their jobs; it sucks for the ones left holding the business' together doing twice as much work for the same pay. Just because no one is being paid to do the work, doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to get done. Many, Americans love this man because for one moment they lived vicariously through the person who sent the loudest "F-You!" that's ever been heard in the world of customer service and Corporate America.

All of us have had dreams of quitting our jobs, in the non-literal, guns blazing sense. The best story I heard was of server who worked at Carraba's and was tipped in nothing but coins. Apparently, she followed the slot winning patrons to their car and threw her handful of silver and copper at the car’s hood and yelled "you obviously need this more than I do". Brilliant woman; as is Steven Slater, who smiled and smirked while he was being arrested by cops who I hope loved him too.

I do believe that this man is more than a hero; I believe he is the first person to initiate a long awaited "Employee Revolution". It’s pretty obvious that we as Americans "live to work" while the rest of the world embraces the opposite approach and they are "working to live". But an “Employee Revolution” or strike is hard to do, especially in modern times, what with our inability to live without electricity and T.V dinners. But we all think about it. There were days, when I was a server, that I literally imagined beating a customer with the giant wooden pepper shaker that I carried with me to greet the table with. I even wrote a poem about it called "Southern Hospitality" it was a hit among my fellow college classmates who were also servers and hosts. But seriously what would happen if we all did what Slater did.

Regardless though, here we are in 2010 making it through this recession like a classic Bon Jovi song, thankfully things haven’t gotten much worse, but they aren’t much better; basically we are stable. But stable sucks, because it only means the carrot is hanging a little closer to our face. Close enough to smell and touch it with your tongue but beyond that- no luck. What would happen, if for a week, everyday was Christmas except even the Chinese restaurants and 7-11 were closed. What would happen if the economy froze because each American finally demanded the respect that they deserved regardless of the job they have or their status in society. That would be a huge problem! The markets would crash, the economy would completely destabilize and the employee's would be in jeopardy of their jobs. Striking is like Senior Skip Day, when two people actually skip and get suspended, while everyone else (the chickens) show up, thankfully.

I actually like my current job, mostly because there is little interaction with other humans. But I have had jobs were the voice in my head, which surprisingly sounds like the brilliant and perpetually angry Eminem, would tell me to "throw that stapler through your bosses glass door, pack your things and go". But I never did it, because I needed the money. I eventually did quit but I took a lot of abuse for nothing. I am one of many living through Mr.Slater and I hope he makes millions of dollars off the memoir he will inevitably write and the endorsement deal, with a very special beer company, he will inevitably make. I hope he has wonderful retirement, somewhere off the coast of Mexico, he deserves it! If I am wrong, which I probably am, and the "Employee Revolution" never comes, than at least a hilarious story will be told, a script will be developed and James Michael Tyler will finally have a leading role in a made for TV film. But for now we will have to see the impact Steven Slater’s public figure Facebook page will have. The group already has over 60,000 friends and it’s only the day after the incident took place; after all we saw what happened with Betty White and Constance McMillen.

UPDATE: As of 8 a.m. on 8/11/10 the Facebook page has over 99,000 supporters and Steven posted bail and has been released.

When everything breaks open album review

I first came across Matt Morris while watching the Hope for Haiti telethon earlier this year, as he sang "Hallelujah" with Justin Timberlake, I wondered who is that guy with the wild mustache. To be honest, I wasn't blown away, but I was intrigued enough to listen to uploads on his myspace page and now I'm big fan.

In an interview with a radio station in San Diego, Morris described his album as "eclectic" and I would agree. The album is comprised of 13 very individual tracks each with a very distinctive rhythm, unique lyrics and passionate melodies. The best part of this album is the layered musical quality it presents through its use of specific instruments especially his use of string instruments, a few heated and controversial lyrics, and his soulful, beautiful and at times rugged voice. He is a truthful artist; the most honest I've seen in a while. His lyrics are current and relevant, especially on tracks like "The Un-American"and "Bloodline".

Because each song is so different I decided to dissect each of the albums songs below, so that you have a better idea of what to expect from this superbly unique album.

1. Don't you dare- I'm personally not to crazy about this track, it's a bit harder than the rest of the album, but his voice sounds great and at times the song incorporates wicked breaks of classically infused piano solo's which I am a big fan of.

2. Money- In money he really touches his jazzy- soul roots, in a Justin Timberlake sounding track- that bounces in and of the truths that come hand in hand with money. This song is great to jam to, reminds me a lot of a Maroon 5- back in the "Songs about Jane" days. I really love how chill this song is

3. Love- "It's like an angel kissed my lips and then held me close and it said this is love" An obvious love song, to a reggae rhythm this song blows me away with its simple musical background combined with beautiful lyrics identifying the love in the first person's life.

4. Bloodline- This song, like many of his songs, tells a story. This one, with full characters and scenery, is the story of a woman living in a big city, unable to make it on her own, the struggles he witnesses her enduring, the truths about how God and the Christians feel about women like this character. It's not only the story that is being told that makes this song unreal, it's also the beautiful string accompaniment that add the life to these, I'm assuming, fictional characters.

5. Live forever- This song is another one of my favorites, it's a bit harder and sounds like he incorporated a light touch of auto-tune... but it never gets annoying, like most other auto-tuned songs. Live forever has great lyrics of how he is going to love like they are both going to live together... that's exactly what I love about his writing, because how often do you hear live like you were dying, or love like you'll never love again etc. this is a totally new approach to viewing love in a true forever and eternal sense and I think that is amazing.

6. The Un-American- In an interview Morris claims he wrote this song after eavesdropping on a conversation a couple of people were having in a hotel. The lyrics are comprised of the characteristics that make a person Un- American. I personally feel that verse 1 and verse 2 are juxtapositions of each other. Each line revolves around things that are current, be it politically and or socially, red vs. blue or just a 3rd person perspective on how things are today. I feel like there are flares of anger in his voice, which combined with a beautiful string arrangement and the stern use of snare and symbols, makes "The Un-American" what I truly believe as the closest thing to a perfect song.

7. Let it go- Slows the albums momentum, and takes it down to a heartfelt acoustic final plea for a chance to speak. Morris' voice sounds pure, solid and honest throughout the song... again complemented by the strings; another great song.

8. You do it for me- I can't stand this song. I actually don't make it past the first twenty seconds of it... it just sounds way too much like Stevie Wonders "Signed, sealed, delivered". So there is not much else for me to say but I do urge you to give it a shot.

9. Just before the morning- Love this song! This is another great story song... something that I could imagine from the "Garden State" soundtrack. This song has an amazing lyrical base and very nice Damien Rice sound to it... Love it!

10. In this house- This song is- Damien Rice meets Ray Lamontagne and they take a vacation to beaches of Jamaica... very cool, guitar infused song. "These buildings grow like weeds, like dandelion seeds, they spring up where they please".

11. Forgiveness- I don't know why but when I hear this song I imagine a travel song... great road song. This is another lyrically driven storyline with wonderful music and a great vocal performance to support it. Very good!

12. Someone to love you- Very simple story... acknowledging the desire to be loved. Beautiful. I love to hear him sing these sensitive truths.

13. Eternity- I'm on the fence about this song, it reminds me of the theme song from True Blood, dreary and mystical. It's dramatic and dark which I like but I feel like there is too much going on, too many words. On a plus he does dabble into that southern rock/ blues/ country genre and that I do like.

So there it is… I hope you have an opportunity to check this guy out… he really is a refreshing new sound given the current state of the music industry. Below are some links for him.

Ayla Brown... "what's up wit you?"

If you don't know who Ayla Brown is, well, until two minutes ago, neither did I. But thanks to the beauty of the internet and more specifically Yahoo.com, I came across the headline "Idol reject is web star". Needless to say, curiosity got the best of me and here I am now.

Miss Ayla Brown is the daughter of the newly elected senator of Massachusetts, Scott Brown. Turns out though, Ayla is a singer. She's also a former contestant on American Idol and now she's released her debut album Cicles. The first single is called "Pick it up" and its surprisingly not that bad; it's actually decent. It'll probably do good with conservative and Christian music scene.

However, the video for "Pick it up" is one of the worst music video's I have ever seen! It is absolutely awful and it looks like a high school film class production with no budget. Simply put, it's terribly cheesy. Please check for yourself and have a laugh on me...

Well, not leave you with a bad taste in your mouth, here is another American Idol contestant and winner Jordin Sparks with a song and video that I think is absolutely fantastic! This video shows her off with great artistry, beautiful backdrop scenes, great angles, cuts and special effects. This video is awesome!

Actually, I have to give a little credit to Ayla Brown, because it's obvious that Jordin Sparks' video probably had a budget of several million dollars and Ayla probably did not have much to work with. And to prove that even big budget videos can fail, check out this masterpiece by my favorite, Michael Jackson and funny man Eddie Murphy

Music for the new year

Happy New Year by the way!!

Welcome back!! It is day 6 of 2010 and I couldn’t feel better and more optimistic about the future and what it holds for all of us. I feel like we survived the first year of the economic depression and now we can carry on with our lives and continue our recovery as individuals and as a nation. So happy New Years again!!

On a more exciting note, this Christmas brought me the gift of music!! My cousin gave me the new Alicia Keys album, "The Element of Freedom" and John Mayer's new album, "Battle Studies". I have been anxiously awaiting both of these new records because of my deep rooted love for both of these artists. And now after listening to both for over a week, I write to you with a review of both. Put simply one was a tremendous let down, and the other has my heart exploding with excitement.

First of all, let me to tell you a little about my love for music. Ever since I was little I have loved music more than anything else. Music makes me feel good, it keeps me focused, it keeps me happy. I have played several musical instruments in my life, but to be honest, I prefer to be on the receiving end of music rather than the writer of riffs, rhythms and beats. I first came across both John Mayer and Alicia Keys in high school and I was not an immediate fan of either. I thought Mayer’s music and lyrics were immature and rather frat boyish and I wasn’t really into Keys music at that time.

When Mayer released Heavier Things, which included "Daughters", "Something's Missing" and "Split Screen Silence", it was obvious that he had gone through a tremendous amount of growth as an individual and as an artist, since Room for Squares. His second album was deeper and heartfelt, less poppy, more guitar oriented and lyrically much more mature. Then came Continuum. In my personal opinion, Continuum, Mayer's third album is one of the greatest albums out there to date. On this album his focus is Blues/Jazz and it can be felt on every track. The album also goes to new depths and areas lyrically with songs like "Belief" and "Waiting on the World to Change", both of which are drawn reactions to the political/social climate of the 2000's. The album also touched on sensitive subjects such as the impact of fame, life and living with a broken heart. Continuum showed a side of John Mayer that I was hoping to get more of on Battle Studies.

I first started getting into Alicia Keys through random songs like "Karma", "This woman’s worth", "Girlfriend", "Fallin’" and a few others. But it wasn’t until she came out with "No One" off her As I Am album, that I was sucked in and consequently blown away. I also regard As I Am as one of the greatest albums released in the past few years. From beginning to end it's solid and exciting. It's romantic, angry, sexy, mature, sensitive and respectful. I love this album so much that I never got sick of listening to it and then boom, two years later, The Element of Freedom came out and here I am falling in love with her stories, rhythms and voice all over again. The Element of Freedom lived up to all my expectations of how she would top As I Am.

The album is comprised of 15 new songs. Some of which seem to be a direct continuance of a few songs from As I Am, but show a continued growth and purpose. So far the songs that stand out to me are "Doesn't mean anything", "Try sleeping with a broken heart", "Un-thinkable", and "Like the Sea" which sounds like she borrowed the rhythm from an old Russian piano piece. This album is beautiful, original and a new stepping stone for her career. Each song is a consistent balance of great music, paired with great lyrics and vocal arrangements. If you haven’t figured it out yet, this is the album that I found an outstanding accomplishment and Mayer's was the let down.

I sat down to listen to Battle Studies a few days after I listened to Alicia Keys new album...maybe that’s why I'm not thrilled. Well, viewing the album on song-to-song bases, it has a couple strengths; but as a whole, this album has bombed. It almost sounds like a mixed tape. The songs "Heartbreak Warfare" sounds like a borrowed anthem from U2. The song "Half of my Heart" sounds country, my brightest guess is because it features Taylor Swift, ... in the background! "Friends, lovers or nothing" sounds like a cheap attempt at sounding like The Beatles. The songs "Assassins" and "Crossroads" begin with an annoying guitar solo or synthesizer, I can't make it past the first 10 seconds of either song. Oh and let’s not forget "Do you know me" which sounds identical to "Stop this Train" from Continuum. The only consistency was the common theme of heartbreak, but not much else.

However, on a good note, the song "Edge of Desire" is where this album did do good. The lyrics, match the guitar perfectly. He tells a good and honest story. His voice sounds pure and at ease. This is the direction that this album should have gone down. But somehow it took a wrong turn. This album ignores the BB King and Eric Clapton influences heard throughout Continuum. There are very few guitar solos but the ones that are featured are simple and not as melodic as those found on his last album and especially on Where the Light is: Live Album.

Well, there it is. I hope I helped you save 13 bucks, or maybe I made you want to spend it to see for yourself. Whatev. Either way I would like it to be known, not that it really matters, but I still love the shit out of @JohncMayer and I continue to anxiously await an album that will match or surpass Continuum.

If you like good- chill music. The Element of Freedom is it. Best album I've heard in a long- long time!! :) Me happy.

Great new show on TV

A few months ago, following the death of one of my favorite singers, Michael Jackson, I wrote a blog about how he inspired and affected me and my family throughout our lives. And with all the things we know and don't know about MJ, there is even less known about the four other members of the Jackson 5.

About a month before Michael's death Tito, Jermaine, Jackie and Marlon, the four remaining members of J5, decided to get together and put together a 40 year anniversary album. They also decided to film their journey, for a documentary style show, which was not going to include Michael, but he was often spoken of. Unfortunately, only one episode was filmed before the tragic and unexpected death of Michael happened. So, naturally the tone and motif of the show changed from chronicling of an anniversary album, to recovering from the loss of a worldwide phenomenon and brother.

I didn’t really know what to expect when I first heard about this show, but I knew instantly, it was something special. For me, it's difficult to recognize that MJ was human. Because, as much as I love and respect his talents, he did a lot of weird stuff that I will probably never understand. And to see his brothers speak of him, the way I speak of my brothers was a new and enlightening experience.

The brothers speak a lot about how "normal" they are, and with the exception of Jermaine, I agree. On the other hand the three other brothers seem to be sweet, mature men, continuing to live their lives with the sweet memory of Michael and their time in the band together. They live in nice houses but nothing like Neverland Ranch. They have wives and kids, that if I ever saw them in the street, I would have no idea they were related to the world’s greatest family of entertainers. I exclude Jermaine, because he is a very unusual man, who I believe has ulterior motives for reuniting with his brothers; and being so outspoken in regards to MJ legacy. He seems like a phony trying to get his share of fame now that his super famous brother is out of the picture.

In one episode, at the request of their mother Katherine, Marlon and Tito return to the house on 2300 Jackson Avenue for inspiration for the new album. In following episodes they speak directly of the effect Michael's death had on their lives and where they were when they found out and such. For me, it's something different and extremely emotional, to watch grown men cry. In person or on TV, it's just something that gets me. And in this show, none of them hold back.

Out of 5 stars, I would give this show a 4.5. I really love its authenticity and introspective look at people I've always wondered about.

Well, in the spirit of me being a new Aunt to a ridiculously adorable little girl named Anya, I've decided to dedicate this posting to a few videos that are absolutely hilarious and they star really cute kids.

Up till this point in my life I've always thought kids were cute, but I've never really been interested in having my own. Well, GOSH BE DARN, something has changed and a small piece of me is romancing the thought of one day pushing a watermelon through a hole the size of my nostril.

But on a more serious note, one of my doubts about having kids is the fact that we live in such a screwed up world. I've always thought about how sad it would be to force a little person to endure the tragedies and heartbreak we do. But I'm starting to see that kids and their innocence is what keeps this world together and keeps us going in hopefully the right direction. It seems to me that every child is an opportunity to start over. Who knows if just the other day, I was holding the person who will finally cure AIDS, or be the first female President, or the next Lady GAGA or the person who makes WORLD PEACE a reality. It's impossible to ever predict- but accepted to always hope.

A modern television miracle

Modern Family-Without a doubt my favorite new show of the fall 2009 television season

Modern Family tells the story of three very different, small families that are somehow related to each other and are unique in their own way. This show is an authentic and hilarious representation of a modern American family. A brilliantly written and amazingly acted, light hearted, beautiful portrayal of family life and the differences and challenges every family overcomes.

The show is filmed as a mockumentary , with some of the same sly camera looks that made "The Office" so popular 6 seasons ago. Its main focus is the relationship and dynamic of the Pritchett-Dunphy family, with a single camera crew capturing intimate and hilarious moments alike. The show was conceived and brought to us by Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan and is comprised of a series of well crafted and wonderfully casted, group of characters. Every person on this show has a reason to be there and makes an enormous contribution to the success and likeability of the show. Even the children matter; how often do you find that on Prime Time TV?

Gloria Delgado-Pritchett

"I don't want to be the spit in your face, but the wind in your back. It sounds much better in Spanish."

One of the most surprising parts of this show is its originality. Never before has the topic of the stereotypical "Gold Digger sexy Colombian wife" been explored on TV so openly and not to mention so accurately. I find it difficult to imagine any other person playing the role of Gloria Delgado-Pritchett then that of former Victoria's Secret Model and actual Colombian, Sophia Vergara.

I myself am Colombian and find her character a sad, yet accurate representation of many of the women I've met throughout my life. And yet instead of being offended, I celebrate in the fact that finally someone is making fun of the stereotype that only Colombian, and other Hispanic women, brought upon themselves. Everything about her character is solid and refreshing; from her relationship with her son, her accent, the things she says, the way she dresses and even her interaction with the other characters on the show.

Meet Cameron, Mitchell and Lily

"Look at that baby with those cream puffs"

Another aspect of this show that is original and deserves praise is its portrayal of gay couple Cameron and Mitchell and their journey as the proud new parents of an adopted Vietnamese baby, Lily. It's amazing how this show has been able to make this gay couple likeable to everyone that watches.

Just the other day, I watched the show with a group of 30 year old men-who I would generally regard as homophobic. I cringed as the episode started expecting to hear a slur of homophobic remarks and instead heard nothing but laughter, literal knee slaps and what seemed to be silences that showed understanding of the situations the couple found themselves in.

This show is single handedly ushering a gay couple, audiences can love, into our lives and into our homes, every week. And perhaps without saying it directly, these three characters and this show, are educating Americans. And they're doing it by making gay likeable and normal. Cameron and Mitchell, fall into a new category for television characters as normal, young, educated, gay men who share their differences from the past and future, with the cameras. I appreciate and respect the fact that they are not portrayed as horny and obnoxious gay guys like Jack from "Will and Grace" or confused and bewildered gay guys like Jack from "Dawson's Creek". This show is doing an amazing job at showing a partnership in respectable terms; they're showing parenting doubts and frustrations. They show all the same problems that every straight couple has, but the writing of this show is making it possible for straight people of all cultures and demographics to feel comfortable watching it. What an amazing accomplishment. This is something that not only straight people need to see, but also gay people. Gay people need to see themselves portrayed as normal on television, so that they can also grow and accept homosexuality outside of their lives and personal relationships. And seeing truly is believing. A couple like this is essential on a show called "Modern Family" because obviously our society is much more accepting today of our gay family members than ever before.

Phil Dunphy

"I'm the cool dad, that's my thang."

And then there's cool dad Phil, a real estate agent and father of three, who is as clueless about life and connecting with his kids as he looks. He is absolutely hysterical and is one of the main focuses of the shows comedic moments. Which usually involves him saying or doing something incredibly awkward and also incredibly funny. He is the patriarch of the Dunphy family who shares little to nothing in common with his family- including his wife's father, but yet the show is almost a diary of his efforts to be a part of his family and find that connection with them. He's a sweet and gentle man and father and his cluelessness leads into the majority of the shows sweetest moments; which is another element of surprise and a welcomed relief from all the other crap shows on TV at the moment.

Closing Moments

Each show ends with a closing statement from one of the characters on how they feel regarding family, sacrifices and understanding differences. The show always wraps with a feel-good moment that is truly touching, because what they say is truly relatable, unique and it sums up the episode in just a few short words. This show is not only a wonderful concept that has finally come to life, but it's a show that has the potential to shape our country and our societies views on a variety of subjects. In addition to the creators, writers, actors and crew, I believe praise is in line to the ABC network for taking a chance on a show that 10 years ago would have been canned immediately; especially following the aftermath of Ellen DeGeneres' coming out episode on her sitcom, her career and life's downfall, thereafter. Well done ABC and the American audience for showing that as a people we are becoming more comfortable with real Modern Families.

The Recession Kids

On December 13, 2008 I sat with several hundred other twenty something’s, in the Leon County Civic Center, surrounded by friends, loved ones and professors. We sat in our black cap and gowns, listening to words of advice, spat at us from our elders, who spent the morning making promises of a new life, new challenges, growth and prosperity.

What their speeches failed to touch on was the Wall Street melt down, the collapse of our financial infrastructure, the fact that there would be no jobs for us, the fact we would still be hustling for years to come, more than any other graduating class in recent American history. They failed to mention that our Student Loan providers could care less whether or not we could pay our monthly dues. Or maybe they did, I just didn’t hear it because I was listening to my IPOD throughout the entire commencement ceremony.

While I sat on my black metal folding chair, I imagined that I would not be serving tables six months from then. But flash forward 11 months, I’m still asking “How would you like you special sauce sir- mild, medium or hot?” Meanwhile the man, who is barking at his Bluetooth, flashes his hand at me and motions for me to go away. Awesome! THIS is what I went to college for! THIS is why I owe 40,000 in loans for!

While I’m at work I like to think that it’s all a dream. That life really isn’t like this. But, it is. And not just for me. Unlike my serving days in Tallahassee, Fl- where I worked with college kids in the same position as me, I work with mostly people in their mid twenties or early thirties. Most of them have college degrees, most of them barely make enough to pay their bills. At my one store alone, there are two unemployed architects, a couple graphic designers, and one kid with a degree in Biology, teachers, musicians, writers, actors, and dancers. All, still serving; some because they want to, others because they have to. But most frustrated with the outcome of the 2008 melt down and how 2009 brought the trickling effect to the tables we serve.

Three hours later and $33 richer, I walk out my workplace and walk three blocks west, where I find a cliff that overlooks the Pacific Coast Highway. This view saves me every time. This is what they should have told us about at my graduation ceremony; about finding something that will save you and help you deal with the unexpected obstacles in life. I look at the Pacific Ocean, the Santa Monica Pier and Malibu. The view is breathtaking and frankly unbelievable. But I find myself missing and longing for the simpler days, and college life. I miss the stickiness of Tallahassee. I miss the red necks and the ignorance of the natives. And I miss the safety and affordability I lived in for those short, sweet six years.

But the biggest challenge of this recession is to not let my life recess. We must move forward. As hard as it is, I moved out here to build a life for myself, and to build a career from the ground up; a metaphorical statement that has now become quite literal. To move back home would be giving into the greedy bastards that destroyed our economy. To move back home would allow those who laughed at my career choice to keep on laughing.

Well, with the salty taste of tears on my tongue let me say this once and I’ll say it loud and proud.

I’m sticking this out and I’m still California dreaming.

I was a 16 year old junior in high school. I believe we were transferring from second to third period, when this kid Mark (the class jack-ass)announced that Saddam Husein had bombed New York and Washington D.C. Naturally, everyone ignored him thinking he was just being stupid as usual. Then the announcement came over the school TV's from our pastor. It was unbelievable. Shocking. One of my older brothers was living and working at the time in Washington D.C, I was terrified for his life. Although there would be absolutely no reason for him to ever be in or near the Pentagon or White House, I still worried that for whatever reason he may have been there. Thankfully he wasn't, but he did watch it all from the roof of his office building that over looked the Potomac River.

My junior year of college I took a Mass Media Law class at Florida State University. We were given an assignment to watch this video of a 9/11 conspiracy theory and decide if there was at all a case of libel or slander in what they said about the U.S government. The next day in class, the debate between slander or libel was irrelevant. The more prominent discussion was the context of this video and how it made so much sense and how terrifying it was. Personally, I'm not sure if I believe this video and its facts, but it does raise many questions that I have wondered since that day. I think more than anything I don't believe this video because I don't want to. I think I would rather believe a group of hateful Muslims would do this, than our own government. I also don't believe that G.W.Bush would have been intelligent enough to pull this off or keep it a secret. But I pass this video on to you because at the very least it's still interesting.

More important than who is to blame, is who was lost. Lives were lost and those lives who survived were forever changed. Those who watched on TV were forever changed by watching thousands of human lives murdered at once. I pray we never experience anything like this again.

The top 10 albums according to me

Well, it's safe to say that at one point or another we've all come across a list of top songs or albums. Well, this is my version of it. Based on lyrics, music beats and rhythms, the artist and circumstances of times, personal issues, and contributions. This list isn't to say that these are the ultimate albums of all time. This list is only an offering of the music that I am most familiar with and bringing into your life. Enjoy!

10. John Mayer: "Where the light is live from L.A."- This is a recording of his live concert in L.A. while promoting his latest album "Continuum". The concert is broken down in to three sections. The first is an acoustic tour through a few of his songs including "Daughters" and Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'". The second part consists of John and two others; a drummer and a bassist, Join him to become the John Mayer Trio. Together they take the audience back 60-70 years and play a set of somewhat bluesy, never heard of, none nonetheless enjoyable, songs. The third and final set he's joined with the rest of the band and proceeds to play the greater majority of his "Continuum" tracks. The final part of this show I really think captures John Mayer's brilliance and yet to be seen potential. When he plays its as if his body is a guitar and his fingers are telling this magical tragedy that he's somehow lived through. Its been fascinating watch him transform from Popular music-frat house type artist to a true lyricist and musician.

9. Janet Jackson: "The Velvet Rope"- includes "Together Again", "Tonight's the night", "got til it's gone" and "Every time". This album was monumental at the time of its release in 1997. It touched on topics that even in the late years of the 20th century where still taboo. Topics like AIDS, all types of sexuality, bondage and love where covered on this album. At the time of its release I was only 12 so I didn't really hear this album till years later when I was introduced to it by a friend. This album is also in Rolling Stones "Top 500 albums of all times".

8. Adele: "19"- I came across this artist last year through pandora.com. I was immediately fascinated with the depths or her lyrics, the range of her soulful sound and brilliant musical arrangements. There are 12 tracks on this album and I honestly love 11 of them. This album was released in early 2008, that same year she was nominated for four Grammy's; taking home 2 of them for "Best new artist" and "Best Female pop vocal performance for Chasing Pavements"

7. Britney Spears: "Blackout" Perhaps one of the greatest albums to ever be made and sourly overlooked. Over Overshadowed by her downward spiraling personal life and failed comeback performance live on National TV. This album defines Britney's mental state and priority at the time this record was written and recorded. Songs include" Get Naked", "Freakshow"," Toy Soldier", "Hot as Ice" and of course "Gimmie More".The record is full of club bangin hip hop and dance beat tracks- In my personal opinion, I feel like this record should be re-released in a few years and given better press and media. This is a great album for working out, long drives or parties. This is the one album where Britney Spears actually showed artistic potential by hiring the right producers and musicians.

6. Dr. Dre: "The Chronic 2001"- This was a huge point in the music worlds when this album came out. Some believed it saved music from the horrible Pop-Mania boy band garbage that was flooding the radios across America. This album was refreshing, smart, and in a few ways relatable. Through tracks like "Forgot about Dre" with Eminem, and "The next episode" with Snoop Dogg, "Lets get high", "Fuck You","Still Dre" and a few others. Even my white-prep school homies where diggin' it. That's when you know it's good.

5. Christina Aguilera: "Stripped"- From the second "Stripped" takes off it's a powerhouse of a record. On this album she takes a new a direction, by actually going in every direction and genre. There are rock tracks, Spanish tracks, hip- hop, ballads and interludes. She touches on the sentiments of being a fighter and inadequacies. Out of the 20 tracks on the album I love 16, but each and everyone displays an enormous vocal and musical talent. This is a must listen CD!!

4.Celine Dion: "Falling into you"- 1996 was the year I became obsessed with Miss Celine Dion. She's amazing. Her songs although in no way reflect her intelligence and strength as an artist, are sexy and lovey-dovey. Everything that a 12 year old wants to hear and believe in. This album includes "It's all coming back", "Because you loved me", "Seduces me" and "All by myself" among others. I haven't met a girl my age who doesn't absolutely love the CD- so trust that you'll love it.

3. Maroon 5: "Songs About Jane"- This is one of my favorite albums of all time. Everything about this band and this album fascinates me. Songs about Jane is a collection of songs inspired by the lead singer, Adam Levine's, rocky relationship with muse Jane. Some songs evoke the sentiment of anger, frustration and love. Others are more focused on life after Jane, and what she will do without him. Maroon 5 does an unbelievable job creating catchy riffs and chorus, not to mention sexy and seductive lyrics. This album is a must have, classic album. Do it!

2. Elvis Presley: "Elvis Presley Greatest Hits"- Not a whole lot to be said here. I love Elvis Presley; I was practically raised on him, Bill Hailey, The Supreme's and other oldie music acts. This album is a collection of his biggest hits and a few remixes or new recordings found. One of the most interesting things about this era is the innovation of technology. Recording had yet to be a mastered art, the electric guitar was still relatively new and Elvis was a revolutionary performer.

1. Michael Jackson: "Thriller and HiStory"- On the note of revolutionary performer- nobody did it or will ever do it like Michael Jackson. Both of the albums hold enormous significance and value. First "Thriller", for being the album that finally separated Michael from his brothers and really any other artist at the time. "Thriller's" explosive song list included "Wanna be startin' something", "Beat it", "Billie Jean", "Human Nature", "PYT" and of course "Thriller".

"HiStory" is a "best of" compilation that combines his hits from "Thriller", "Bad" and "Dangerous" songs included "Bad", "Heal the World", "Man in the Mirror", "She's out of my life", and "They don't really care about us". This album was not even close to being as big as "Thriller" but I believe it's equally as important.

The Moonwalker

It's been a little over three weeks since the world lost Michael Jackson and I lost a hero. I wanted to write about his death immediately but the words didn't come. Neither did tears, just shock. I like millions, perhaps billions, of people was raised on Michael Jackson. I was raised by strict Colombian parents in Orlando, Fl who feared the profanity and obscenity in music which therefore led to them to limiting what we could and could not listen to. Elvis Presley, Bill Haley and the Comets, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Frank Sinatra, countless numbers of classic Colombian anthems, and The Beatles were acceptable. But Michael Jackson was another story. His music was always danced to, his videos always watched. He was always welcomed in our little home and throughout my relative's lives.

New York, New York 1970
My mother Rosi age 16, and her two younger siblings Lucrecia, 15 and Oscar, 12 first moved to the United States in 1970. Their first impression of America was New York City, a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities, a country at war in Vietnam and a young black family known as The Jackson 5 singing and dancing on television and radio. My uncle died when I was very young, the memories I have of him are simply stories I hear from other family members. And from those stories rises endless stories of his fascination with Michael Jackson and his brothers. My uncle was an untrained musician with the ability to pick up and play any instrument he could find. He rocked a leather jacket, collar popped, and had long raggedy hair. My uncle was fascinated with Black America; he eventually changed his name to Jim Brown after the professional Football and lacrosse player. He opened the door for my family by being the first person in the Lopez-Vargas bloodline to marry and have children with a non-Hispanic, non-Colombian woman named Sylvia, a black model from New York City. My uncle's biracial relationship and marriage paved the way for my brothers future relationships and marriages to white girls. My uncle was also inspired to recreate the Jackson family within his own family naming his sons after the Jackson 5, although he only had Michael, Marlon and Jermaine at the time of his death in 1988.

My family was just a small portion of the 300 million people that viewed his public memorial service. I watched in Santa Monica, one brother in Beverly Hills- the other in San Francisco, my mom in Orlando, cousins in Miami, we all cried. For me this day was unimaginable. Watching the service reminded me of being at my friends viewing last October and realizing how final her, and any death, is. I, like millions of others, regret that I never had the chance to tell Michael Jackson how I felt about him and how significant his life had been on mine. I remember singing "Heal the world" and "Man in the Mirror" with my mom on our drives around town. I remember buying "Invincible" the day it came out. It wasn't his greatest album- but it was still good. I remember watching his 30th Anniversary Special on TV- I still have the video tape I recorded it on. And yes he has always been on my IPOD, so is his sister Janet.

Los Angeles, California 2009
When I moved to Los Angeles three months ago, I was under the impression that he had left the United States for good- since he had left after his trial and let go of Neverland Ranch- only to find out he died at the UCLA hospital ten minutes away from where I live. I wish I would have known he was here in L.A. I'm not sure what I would have or could have done to meet him, but I probably would have tried to meet him or something. I wish I had a chance to thank him for the unbelievable dedication and work he put into his job as an entertainer. That was his job, to make us smile, to surprise us with something new that we never thought would be possible and he pulled it off over and over again. To me Michael Jackson was a living, breathing symbol of hard work and dedication. Growing up I learned the American Dream through the story of The Jackson 5. Coming from Littletown, U.S.A to become a family of entertainers, driven by desire and perfection. To me he proved himself to be subhuman. His movements and expressions seemed unnatural, yet awesomely perfect. Even his fingers performed when he was dancing.

As observers we saw Michael Jackson as a two sided enigma. We saw the entertainer, the singer, the dancer, the humanitarian and the kid who never grew up. On the other side we were presented with rumors and theories, lies, manipulation and excuses. Did he or didn't he... molest young boys, bleach his skin, reconstruct his face and body throughout the last 25 years, father his own children, try to end his life multiple times, die a broken and bankrupt man? What it boils down to is what you believe. I don't believe he touched any boys, I just don't think it's possible. On all the other controversies, I don't think I have the right to even care about his skin, face and finances. I never knew him, many didn't, so how could I say whether he was right or wrong in anything he chose to do with his life. Maybe he hated his face. Maybe he was sick of seeing it everywhere, maybe he just liked being different. I don't know, we may never know the truth, but the human race as it exists will always have the documentation- the videos, the music, the books and collections- that define him as the greatest entertainer that ever lived, the most inspiring, professional and intriguing human being of our time. Thanks to technology- his life, memory and the mark he left in history will be left for all generations of the future to watch, learn and enjoy.

So thank you Michael Jackson for making my childhood and young adulthood fun and keeping me and my family entertained. This was one of the songs he worked on earlier this year with Akon

And you know what, in my country, and in my family, I think that, I believe that, a marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there. Well, I support you gay an lesbian penguins, and I also support my roommates bisexual Italian Greyhound, I think it's time that us humans, take a step back and look at these animals and ask ourselves what are we missing when an inferior species can except homosexuality and alternative families but we still can't fathom the idea of letting people just be happy. Dear Mr. Van Gundy,

Why? Why did Jameer Nelson play the entire fourth quarter? Why? My brother speculates your trying to prove something. Is it that you don't want us to win? There were plenty of opportunities and a bench full of men ready to play, to score, and to regain a rhythm your team lost in the third quarter and yet Nelson remained on the court. Then came the OT. Why was he still in there? At the end of the game he had 2 points and 3 assists, so what was the point in keeping Alston 11 pts, Lee 4 pts, Reddick 6 pts- 3 assts and Gortat 4 pts on the bench getting colder by the second.

I can't be the only person that's feeling this way, but seriously, when something isn't working, especially during a game that only has 48 minutes in it, you try something else- something new. And you keep on trying till you find the formula that works. This is what you fail to do. The same was done earlier in this series with Jameer Nelson, which leads me to believe my brother after all. Are you trying to create some kind of Cinderella story? Glorify the guy that was out of the game for four months, only to come back and lead his team to their 1st franchise win? Well, it's not going to happen. He doesn't have the skill, stamina, confidence, or chemistry to pull it off. So knock it off with that shit!! Please Mr. Van Gundy, Please.

Mr. Van Gundy, I also have another question, how do you explain your team missing so many free throws? Do you practice FT with real balls or just pretend to shoot from the line? How can these inconsistencies continue to be an issue this late into the season and this far into these ball players careers? What I'm trying to say here is we're let down. And the teams inability to produce is a strong reflection of your inability to direct, coach and make that right calls under substantial pressure. Well, Mr. Van Gundy, on behalf of Orlando and the entire fan base of Magic fans around the world, I hope things can get better for the magic and the next three games will go our way, otherwise we'll have to wait for our next chance at a championship. Hopefully not another 14 years. I thank you graciously for your time and hope to hear from you soon.

The greatest most annoying commercial ever!

"San Bonita, it means literally a whales vagina"

This commercial aired literally every 10 minutes in the Tallahassee, FL last summer. By the end of the season, San Bonita was the most hated, yet to be built, neighborhood in the tiny city of Tally. Black Magic-shut it down!

Orlando beats Cleveland 107-106

Thank God!! The Magic have finally put there batteries in and caused chaos in Cleveland with game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals going to the Magic! It all went down during the last quarter of game 1, when the Magic gained control of the ball, the Cleveland fans and LeBron James' cocky attitude.

I must say, it's such a wonderful feeling to see the Magic doing well again. The last time this happened, it was 1996 and I was 11 years old -cheering on the likes of Penny Hardaway, Shaquille O'neal, Dennis Scott and Nick Anderson. It's been a long time coming but I think we finally have the right players, coaches, fans and respect. Finally, the little team that could is doing it and doing it well.

Obviously, the biggest problem for the Magic and any other team going up against the Cavaliers is LeBron James. He's too big and too fast for the majority of the players in the NBA. Dwight Howard is the perfect size to cover James, but doesn’t have the speed. JJ Reddick, who did a fabulous job guarding Ray Allen during the Celtic series, has the speed, but not the height and certainly not the shooting ability that the Magic need to win and win big in this series. Stan Van Gundy, who admitted in a post game interview that he still doesn't know what he's gonna do about the defense covering James, needs to get some ideas going for his team, cause I guarantee whatever it is they did yesterday won't work again tomorrow.

My advice, stop the ball movement on the Cleveland side. Stick to your man like your glued together. Get the steels. Dont even let LeBron touch the ball. Keep more than just Howard under the basket, yes he is amazing, but he cant get every single rebound. Continue to silence the crowd. Get those 3 point shots- we have like 4 regular players that can kill with their 3 pointers so let's do it! Use Pietrus- he's silent but deadly, use Gortat, he always delivers! Let's do it! Let's Believe!! Go Magic!

It's Adam or Kris on American Idol tonight!

Tonight on American Idol it all ends and it all begins. We will finally find out who wins this seasons singing competition and gets handed the reigns from season 7 winner David Cook, and who goes home and tries to become a superstar despite the outcome of America’s favorite show.

The contestants, Über gay, San Diego native- Adam Lambert vs. the heartthrob hubby from Arkansas- Kris Allen. Personally, I’m rooting for Adam, who finally gave Idol viewers, something to look forward to especially when juxtaposed to the other contestants who were good, but all together bland, especially when following a performance by Adam. The winner is also awarded the amazing opportunity to sing possibly the worst of all Idol coronation songs- "No Boundaries" co-written by one of the shows judges Kara DioGuardi. The best part of hearing Adam sing that song was Simon mocking the lyrics with Kara sitting two feet away from him. Now that’s classic television.

Now a word from me to Adam and Kris, who will never get this message but oh well.

Congrats to you both, I along with the rest of the country that can still afford to get cable, wish you the best and much success. Don't get big heads and become different people once your famous- Your fans will desert you. Take a lesson from Kelly Clarkson-you don't get an ass like that till you've pissed off the head of Jive records and a couple million of your fans by becoming someone they didn't spend there time and money voting for. Will somebody please inform Spencer Pratt how much of Jack Ass he is! What the hell kind of a song is this? He's talking about being "famous", twitter, iPHONE's, blackberry's and volunteering. This song is about as exciting as Shaquille O'neal's rap debut back in 1993. I never thought there could be an individual more conceded then Kanye West, but ladies and gents we found him, in homeboy Spencer Pratt. What a douche. Seriously.

I really hope this kids kidding with all this stuff, but something tells me this is for real. Just don't put this guy in prime time and I think we'll all be okay.

Well, as far as the song goes, I'll give it one out of five stars.

So today marks three weeks, since I made the big move to California, I'm loving it and I'm thrilled to be here, but there are things I miss.

Pools and beaches with warm water. If ever you fly over a city in Florida, look out the window and notice that almost every house has a pool. Every apartment complex has at least one, if not more, but in CA only the super wealthy have pools, plus it's too cold to even enjoy being in the water and laying out in the sun.

In Coral Gables, FL just outside of Miami proper, you'll find the Venetian Pool. One of my favorite places on earth and possibly one of the most beautiful places to spend the day. The Venetian Pool is essentially just a swimming hole, fed by a natural spring from the Florida aquifers and surrounded by limestone and palm trees. The water is cold, but bearable once your body has adjusted. Whether you plan to swim , lay out, relax in the cave, sit under the waterfall, play in the kids area, or dive in, the Venetian Pool is a great way to spend the day in South Florida and for a great price. Runyon Canyon is a 130 acre park located two blocks from Hollywood and located within the Hollywood Hills. The canyon is comprised of rugged trails that wrap around the canyon and allow the hiker to restin areas with breath taking views of Los Angeles, the Hollywood sign, miles and miles of the gorgeous and massive mansions of Beverly Hills and Bel-Air. So, while I'm still trying to find my groove here on my blog- I'm gonna be trying some new things out. The first thing, is a once a week posting of things I find sexy. This could be anyone from anywhere, famous or not, woman or man, and I encourage you to do the same as well.

This week, I chose a poster of Colin Egglesfield and a photograph by Tonya Chalkin of two women engulfed in a kiss, in a photograph titled "The Kiss". Frankly, these two posters are what got me through my first year in college, while living with my random roommate in our boring and moldy dorm. Cynical world craves more from Susan Boyle

In a song that sounds like it was pulled off the original James Bond soundtrack, “Britain’s got Talent” star, Susan Boyle has struck again. Originally, the song was released on a charity album in 1999 entitled The Millennium Celebration. On the album Boyle sings a moving rendition of Ella Fitzgerald’s 1950’s classic, “Cry me a river”. Her voice throughout the track is solid; and the string and horn accompaniment, layered under the vengeful lyrics are a perfect combination for a heartbreaking song. I give this song four out five stars!

Like Barack Obama said “the time has come”. New beginnings, desperate hopes and a world of blessings join the Obama’s as they move into the White House this afternoon.

Today, we have a new President, thank God for that and thank God for hope. And today we can begin the process of rebuilding all that has been destroyed in the last few years. In another phenomenal speech, that is bound to inspire millions around the world, for decades to come, Obama verbally ignited the engines of tired and disillusioned Americans world wide. Both citizens of the United States of America and the world are celebrating and hoping on one man to save us. My hope is that together we can.
